Dallas Cup Executive Director Gordon Jago has always wanted to have “first time” events throughout his soccer career whether it be in soccer tactics/team and club activities or PR/Media promotions, and this year’s tournament is certainly a year of firsts.
Arsenal FC
English Premier League Academy U18 Champions for the past two years will be the first Arsenal FC team at any level to play in the USA in its’ 125 year history. A great credit to the status of Dr Pepper Dallas Cup in international youth soccer.
FC Barcelona
The famed Spanish Soccer Club with one of the most outstanding youth programs will make their first appearance in the Super Group this year. Lionel Messi, winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or, the world’s best player, and fellow finalists Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta all play for Barcelona and came though the clubs youth academy La Masia into the clubs first team. Nine of Spain’s 2010 World Cup team emerged from La Masia.
Marching Band
For the first ever time a marching band will be at Dallas Cup tournament when the exciting Townview Center High School Marching Band of 120 member band under the directions of Dean Hill and Carlisa Washington will perform at the Opening Ceremony at Pizza Hut Park Stadium on 17 Sunday.
Monkeys Selling Programs
After the success of their appearance at the Texas Motor Speedway (Mikey and Rocky two adorable monkeys along with their handler’s) will be selling programs on Opening Day at Pizza Hut Park Stadium from 5:45PM – 7:30PM. Bring your cameras. DEFINITELY A FIRST FOR DALLAS CUP!!!
International Teams
The Dallas Cup, one of the most prestigious International boys youth soccer tournament in the world is proud of its’ record of having teams from over 100 countries play in the tournament since its conception in 1980. This year we welcome The India National U15 team from India, Academy Sports Club AR from Cayman Islands and Soccer Elite AR from Puerto Rico to give us three more countries to play on the soccer fields of Dallas and Frisco.
