Bobby Rhine Fall Invitational presented by MoneyGram to become qualifying tournament for Dr Pepper Dallas Cup

Fall classic honors former FC Dallas player and broadcaster

FRISCO, Texas (Wednesday, March 7, 2012) – Beginning this November, the Bobby Rhine Fall Invitational presented by MoneyGram will be a qualifying tournament for the prestigious Dr Pepper Dallas Cup.

The tournament, held November 23-25 at the FC Dallas Stadium complex, will field 130-150 teams in the Under-11 through Under-16 age groups. Four teams (one each in the U-13, U-14, U-15 and U-16 age groups) will ultimately qualify for the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup based on their results in the Bobby Rhine Fall Invitational presented by MoneyGram.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to assist FC Dallas in every way possible to have a successful qualifying tournament,” said Randy Jones, Dallas Cup tournament manager.

FC Dallas Vice President of Youth Chris Hayden echoed Jones’ excitement about the new qualifying tournament and the potential top tournament field expected at FC Dallas Stadium in November.

“We are also pleased we are honoring the legacy of Bobby Rhine with what will become a prestigious youth event held in Frisco each Thanksgiving,” said Hayden. “Bobby Rhine meant so much to our organization as a player, coach, broadcaster and friend. This event will remind our fans, supporters and the overall youth soccer community of Bobby’s selfless and enduring contribution to FC Dallas.”

Rhine, who spent his 10-year MLS career as a player for Dallas, and then retired to the broadcast booth and front office with the club, passed away suddenly in September 2011 at the age of 35.

“Our boys and I are so proud to have this tournament named for Bobby,” said Rhine’s wife, Bevan. “Bobby played in Dallas Cup as a youth player and coached in it several years ago. He was always impressed by the Dallas Cup's long term commitment to keeping the tournament one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. I know he would be honored to have his name associated with a qualifying tournament that helps to ensure the exceptional quality of the Dallas Cup.”

After ending his playing career following the 2008 season, Rhine remained as a key figure with Dallas, making valuable contributions in both community development and broadcasting.

During his career, Rhine appeared in 212 games for Dallas, making 136 starts and playing more than 12,000 minutes. He scored 23 goals and recorded 34 assists. His goals total is good for eighth all-time in the FC Dallas record books, while his assists total ranks fourth behind Jason Kreis, Oscar Pareja and Ronnie O’Brien. Rhine was selected in the First Round (sixth overall) in the 1999 MLS SuperDraft.

In addition to the naming the invitational after Bobby, the FC Dallas Foundation is starting the Bobby Rhine Heart Project which will provide life protecting devices to sports complexes and facilities.

“Bobby Rhine was a great friend to all of us here at the Dallas Cup and we are only too pleased to assist Bobby’s wife, Bevan, and the FC Dallas Foundation in raising funds for the Bobby Rhine Heart Project,” said Gordon Jago, executive director of the Dallas Cup.

WORLD CUP STYLE DRAW FOR “HOMESTAY” TEAMS.

“Which team was the Dallas Texans First Choice”

“From which country did the team that Solar had last year come from”

“Andromeda cannot have that team they are in their bracket”

“AYSES Gold” had a team from England last year, they should have another country team this year”

Just a few comments by members of the “Homestay Committee” last year as they attempted to finalize the local teams choices of which international team they would host for Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII.

It has always been the aim of the “Homestay Selection Committee” to give our local teams their choice of the visiting team that they wish to host. Unfortunately it is not always possible for example all four local team in one group last year made the same international team their first choice!

With all this in mind we decided this year to change the selection format and make it interesting and fun. Each local team will draw the international team that they will host.

The rules for the draw being as follows:

1. Local teams will draw in the order of their finish in the Classic League Fall Season or US and USSF Academy leagues.

2. The local team cannot draw an international team in their bracket, if so they will draw again.

No other Rules!

We hope that our local team representatives will enjoy their involvement in the selection of “their” visiting international team and we thank them for their time and support to the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII, it is very much appreciated.

CRS Stars Inc. announces Club Bolivar to represent Bolivia in the Dallas Cup

Press Release:

Dallas, TX, January 17, 2012: CRS Stars Inc. today announced that Club Bolivar will represent Bolivia in the U-19 group this year.

Club Bolivar President, Marcelo Claure and CRS Stars Inc. President, Reynaldo H. Lopez confirmed today that Club Bolivar will be returning to the 2012 International Dallas Cup in April this year. “It will be important that we continue what we started last year and make a tradition of participating in the Dallas Cup. Club Bolivar is sending a message to the Bolivian Soccer world that our players can play at the same level with the best teams in the world”, said Marcelo Claure.

Club Bolivar’s USA Representative, Coach Reynaldo H. Lopez, former Dallas Cup Alumnus (1987) is optimistic of the team’s participation this year due to the high quality level of the team. Club Bolivar’s Pre-Professional team just completed the season and won the Championship in their division. The team has already started training for the Cup. “This team has a lot of talent and they know that it will be a difficult competition but they are ready for the challenge”, said Coach Rey Lopez.

Club Bolivar’s Pre-Professional Coach, Oscar Villegas, is working hard with the U-19 team to provide the highest caliber of competition for this tournament. “Club Bolivar is one of the best clubs in South America and in Bolivia, and by participating in International Tournaments such as the Dallas Cup, it will make a difference in the way the Club focuses on the lower division youth program”, said Lopez.

Club Bolivar and CRS Stars, Inc. have started a program that allows players from Dallas to travel and train in Bolivia with the Club Bolivar pre-professional teams. In turn, Bolivian players travel to Dallas to train and participate in the Dallas Cup. These programs provide international exposure for both countries.

Club Bolivar is both excited and honored to be invited back to the Dallas Cup 2012 and look forward to the games in April.
