Dallas Cup Super Group Preview Eintracht Frankfurt

Dallas Cup Super Group Preview: Eintracht Frankfurt

By Daniel Robertson

German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt should be a pretty familiar team to those who have followed the Dallas Cup Super Group in recent years. Eintracht is joining the Dallas Cup Super Group for the fifth straight year in 2010 looking to build on last year’s best ever result for the Germans winning the third place game.

Eintracht, the home of US International Ricardo Clark, is enjoying a strong 2009-2010 season in the Bundesliga as they are currently in eighth place with a spot in Europe still in sight. Eintracht has won the German Cup four times and the UEFA cup once in 1980. They also have a strong history of developing top youth talent with three German U19 league championships.

The Eagles look to be one of the most exciting offensive teams to watch in the tournament as they are bringing German U19 International forwards Marcos Alvarez and Cenk Tosun. Alvarez, who made his first team debut on January 30th in Frankurt’s game against Cologne, has dominated the German Southern division of the U-19 championship, scoring 12 goals which is good for second in the league. He is currently named to Germany’s U-19 squad that will face Italy on March 17. Tosun, who will partner with Alvarez up top during the tournament, has not featured for the first team yet, but has broken into the German youth national team in style scoring 2 goals in his 3 appearances with Die Mannschaft.

Eintracht is led at the back by U19 German International and Guatemalan born Stefano Cincotta. Cincotta, who is also in the squad to face Italy this week, has been with Frankfurt since 2004 and has three caps for the U19 German national team. The rest of Eintracht’s team is made up of ther U-19 squad that is currently in 10th out of their 14 team league that includes the youth teams of Bayern Munich, Stuttgart, Mainz, Hoffenheim and other Bundesliga squads.

The Germans will come to Dallas Cup with loads of experience with almost every player having played in the Super Group before, though Frankfurt will have their work cut out for them. Their daunting group starts out with a game against the Vancouver Whitecaps before facing the Mexican National Team and rounding off the group with a feature stadium game on Wednesday, March 31 against the USA National Team.
